10th Anniversary World Music Festival

We are happy to have been invited to play at yet another World Music Festival at Culport in Kochi City! This year will be the 10th anniversary of the event, and will be an all day festival with food booths and some crafty gifts.

Things kick off at 10:00 in the morning so come out and listen to a variety of music, eat a lot of really great international cuisine, and hang out all day. We will go on stage at 4:00 PM, and it will only be a 30 minute set, so please come out and support us.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Dewali: a Windbeat & DJ Yutaka Live Dec. 10

On Dec. 10, come escape the cold and join us in our warm candlelit circle at the Attic where we will be playing with DJ

In honor of the total lunar eclipse that will happen on the tenth, we are calling this show Dewali, after the Festival of Lights in India.

It seems that most people don’t know where Attic is which is a shame as it means you’ve probably never been there. Attic is a great space that is perfect for chilling out.

Windbeat will play a first and second part set, separated by talk and socialize time. We’ll be playing a few new songs that I think you’re really going to like!

Afterwards, DJ Yutaka will take over and take us all to a special place with some incredible mixes.

I can feel that this is going to be a great night, and we hope to see you there!

Tickets will be 1000 yen (no drink), and doors open at 8:00. Bring a friend or 10 and let’s make this cold dark night one to remember 🙂

Kosta’s Last Gig 7.15 7:30~ @ Harry’s House

Almost one year ago to the date we had an epic show at Harry’s House in Kita Hon-Machi in downtown Kochi to say goodbye to the members of another band.  This year, it will be very hard for us to have the final Windbeat show with our loveable didge player, Kosta.  He will be moving on to to new beats, and new winds to ride on the back of.  Come out and wish him the best, and have a great time with the rest of us.

In addition to Windbeat, Brade Wagner, Von Holt, and our own Mia Braverman will have some solid soulful solo time.  After Windbeat, stick around for Neversearch to really turn up the Kochi summer.  Dance, dance, and when you feel like quitting, dance just a little bit more.  It will be a night to remember.

*Windbeat have decided to donate all profits from ticket sales and all money from CD sales at this concert to the Red Cross relief efforts to those affected by the Tohoku earthquake. *

It is hard to know what to do when we see such devastation, sadness and fear. We have decided to go ahead with this gig, but we really want to show our solidarity in some small way, by donating any money we make and CD sales to the victims of the Tohoku quake.

Please read the previous post for details of the gig. And please let us know asap if you require a ticket for the event.

Springtime Means Thaw Your Feet for Tapping

It’s been a while since we’ve given any sort of an update. While we’ve been silent during the last couple of months, we’ve been braving the harsh cold of winter to practice and play a few small, private parties.

We’ve also been working on a few new tunes. We played one at a private graduation party of about 60 last week. It was greatly received, and some people were disappointed that it wasn’t on our CD.

The melody was written by Mia, and the ukelele is the highlight, transforming from the serene beach style image you have into a soulful, almost marchy, sounding confession of how difficult human relations can be.

The rest of the band fills in as usual in beautiful accord, but Nate has put down the guitar and brought in the help of the twenty-first century–an iPhone app called SoundPrism. It adds a whole new layer to the song that is pretty fun.

The other song we’re working on is not quite ready for the public yet, but it should be a great song to release in spring as it causes an uncontrollable urge to tap your feet or get up and dance.

These two songs are like night and day, and are a fresh and welcome addition to the band’s expanding repertoire.

Where can you listen to them? For a while, you will only be able to hear them live. So, make it out to our first big public event in Kagamimura, or to the earth day festival in April (more details to follow on this event).

Come out and enjoy the sun! Look forward to seeing you there.

Windbeat Made the Evening News

If you live in Kochi, be sure to pick up your copy of the evening news and notice a picture of the band on the front page, along with the title “From Kochi, the Sound of of Many Countries.”

You can find the whole article about Windbeat on the page six.

It is basically just telling about each of the members, what we do in the band, and why we made the album.

This is pretty much our big break. Watch out for us in the next Rolling Stone! OK. Maybe not. But it is still fun to be in the news… Especially because Japanese people still read newspapers.

Windbeat Debut on iTunes, Amazon, and all Your Favorite MP3 Stores

PayPal is great because it allows anyone to sell from their own webpage, but the process seems to be a little confusing for a lot of people.

That is why we have distributed our CD to the biggest online MP3 stores like iTunes, Amazon, Napster, CDbaby, and many others to come.

Go to any of the sites and search “Windbeat”, or you can check out Music page on the blog to get our link on all of these sites.

As always, thanks for your support and we hope this will make it easier for everyone to get a copy of our music!
